Topic: Egg Donation

Hello, I am married to a wonderful guy and a few months ago my fertility specialist told me that I have POF (premature ovarian failure) which now means I need egg donation.

The nurses and counsellor didn't seem to know much about anonymous egg donors in Perth and have tried to push me into getting my sister to donate which I am not comfortable with. We desperatley want a baby what should we do?

Hi Cleo,

I don't know if this helps but I got some really good advice from Concept Fertility on anonymous sperm donation - I don't know if this will be the same for eggs. I also saw Iolanda the counsellor and she was tops and really knew what she was talking about. Glad someone did!

Hello Cleo,

Concept Fertility Centre (9382 2388) do offer a limited anonymous egg/embyro programme however it would also make sense to touch base with PIVET  Medical Centre (08) 9422 5400

For recipients needing anonymous egg donation Hollywood Fertility Centre have have also advised me of their international based programme. Contact Hollywood Fertility (9389 4200) for details about this programme.

My final comment - if you haven't made your final decision about anonymous donation - it might be timely  to get a second opinion from a different infertility counsellor who can discuss the pros/cons of anonymous vs known egg donation -  not only from your perspective but from the perspective of best interest of any child born. The counsellor will also be able to help you with information on donor resources and support groups.
