Re: egg stimulation/surrogacy

Hello Mandy,

The surrogacy process is quite complex.

As a start the things you need to consider are:

1. Getting your own surrogate as the clinics do not advertise on your own behalf
2. Get a referral to a fertility specialist at one of the clinics listed below - the FS will confirm your eligibility for surrogacy.
3. Be aware that you, your partner and surrogate and her partner will need to be seen by an approved infertility clinic counsellor for several counselling sessions and then be seen by an independent clinical psychologist for psychometric assessment.
4. You and your surrogate will also need independent legal advice - the lawyers will assist you in the development of the surrogacy arrangrment/contracts

So I suggest that you make contact with each of the Surrogacy Co-Ordinators in clinics offering surrogacy. They can tell you about streamlining the appointments you will need and costs associated with treatment. These clinics are:

Concept Fertility Centre - (08) 9382 2388
Hollywood Fertility Centre - (08) 9389 4200
Pivet Medical Centre   -  (08) 9422 5400

Hope this helps
Iolanda

Re: egg stimulation/surrogacy

Hi coodar,

Your story has emotional and sensitive issues that you might want to first discuss with a counsellor before you commence a surrogacy process. You are able to contact the clinics offering surrogacy and ask to schedule an appointment with their counsellor for general information. Alternatively each of the above clinics (Concept Fertility, Hollwood Fertility and PIVET) will have a clinic coordinator who can tell you about the pragmatics (eliglbility and process for establishing a surrogacy arrangement in Perth) and set the ball rolling.

Please note: Formal assessment for a surrogacy arrangement should only commence once the clinic's gynaecologist has seen both the arranged parent and the potential surrogate.

Re: egg stimulation/surrogacy

thank u for that information i just need to  know   what happens if i cant find someone to carry my baby can someone who does it for a living do it or does it need to be someone i know and can yous help in that regard thanks stacey

Re: egg stimulation/surrogacy

Hi Coodar,

People who have been attending clinics have brought in their own surrogates as clinics are not able to advertise on your behalf. Ultimately this means you will have to find your own surrogate. People who know your story will typically offer if they are interested in being a surrogate for you without you having to approach them.  Surrogates in Australia should not be doing it for a living as this means they are being paid (beyond reasonable treatment expenses) and would be in breach of the law. Commercial surrogacy is only available overseas. Good luck.

HI Many
Have you found the answers you are looking for? If you need to know anything you can email me. I have been thru the process before and am currently going thru it in Perth. I have done a lot lof research i have lawyers, psychs, clinic contact details etc and could help you along the way if you already have a surrogate. Its a lengthy process and alot of crap to deal with but will be worth it at the end. Let me know if you need to know anything..

Re: egg stimulation/surrogacy

Hi
I am from Perth and have done surrogacy before and currently on the adventure again. I have done a lot of research and have quite a bit of knowledge if anyone needs some answers or help with their journey along the way. I can help you out with who a great psych is, lawyer and any other questions you may have. I was also thinking of putting a support group together i would love to actually meet up with other couples in the same situation but wanted to get a feel for who would be interested in doing this. I think it would benefit those who are doing surrogacy and also those that want to be a surrogate and we could all feed of each other. Be great even for the men to talk to other men dealing with the same situation.
Anyway let me know if anyone is interested and i will look into setting up a date that we could meet up.

Re: egg stimulation/surrogacy

Hi,  I am just starting out finding information about doing surrogacy with my sister as the surrogate... we were hoping to by pass all the clinics and do this ourselves using self insemination as I have no eggs and no way of carrying a baby.  Does anyone know of the legalities to do it yourself without a fertility clinic... any advice on lawyers to talk to etc..

Re: egg stimulation/surrogacy

Hi Gardner,

Whilst I can't promote bypassing clinic protocols which are legislated by the WA Surrogacy Act (2008) - I can suggest the following lawyers who have indicated to the Reproductive Technology Unit that they are both knowledgeable and interested to be contacted for the purpose of providing independent legal advice in relation to surrogacy proceedings and parentage orders:

John Pacy - Family Law Specialist - 9371 9261

Janine Kiely - 9091 8021

Rachel Oakeley - Family Law - Bowen Buchbinder Vilensky Lawyers - 9325 9644

DCH Legal Group - 9382  8488

Nicole Croft and Lucy Thomas - Patterson and Dowding - 9226 3300

Kimberley Kerr - Marks & Sands Lawyers - 9488 1300

Hope this information helps.

Re: egg stimulation/surrogacy

Hi Shazzac

Its great that you have been a surrogate before and are doing it again.

I'm very lucky to have found a surrogate.  My surrogate and I would like to meet up with you.  We are obviously both 'new' to the surrogacy procedure in Perth and it would be good to talk to someone who has been involved in surrogacy before.

Thanks very much.
Kind regards
Carmen

Re: egg stimulation/surrogacy

Hi,
I had a surrogate arranged 2 years ago with a close friend but that unfortunately fell through.  I was disheartened and thought it would be too hard to find another. I believe there has been progress in passing the surrogacy bill in WA and thought there would be a greater exposure of the topic and more willing surrogates.  Can anyone give me any advice on how to find a willing surrogate?  Have all success stories here come out of surrogates approaching despairing couples?
Thanks in advance.

Re: egg stimulation/surrogacy

Hi jamesey,

Surrogacy treatment in Perth is still in its infancy and most people who have presented at Perth fertility clinics  have found their own surrogates by continuining to share their infertilty story to their wider social network and family members. I have found that it is the surrogate who typically offers to undergo surrogacy without being approached - women seem to instinctively know that surrogacy is something they can/can't do or even contemplate.
