Re: ovulation induction via clomid

Hello Sammy84

A simple question but as I have discovered a complex answer depending on who you see, where you go and what drugs are used for ovulation induction.

Hollywood Fertility Centre (9389 4200) report on their site full care cost for Ovulation Induction per cycle being $325 (covers ultrasounds, bloods, monitoring). This fee does not include the cost of clomid or the initial consultation with the fertility specialist which is $155 for an individual consultation or $310 for a couple consult. Most people attend the initial consultation as a couple to ensure no additional male factor component. The doctor consultation is medicare rebatable at $70 per person- The attached  link summarises their OI information.

Re: ovulation induction via clomid

I am going through exactly the same thing Sammy84 and was wondering that aswell. Thanks for your information iolanda. Hollywood hospital is where my gyno is sending me so having  some idea of the costs helps. My gyno has actually given me the choice of either using clomid or going straight to IVF. I am thinkng of using clomid first but the success rate is much higher for IVF (but more expensive) Does anyone know what is best.
Also, does anyone know of a good gyno. My doctor referred me to a male ne and i am not very happy with him. thankyou.

Re: ovulation induction via clomid

P.S Is Hollywood hospital a good place to go for fertility treatment with regard to service and costs. Or are there better places to go.

Re: ovulation induction via clomid

Hi ella,

Hollywood Fertility Centre has an excellent reputation - Their medical director Dr. Simon Turner is well respected both as gynaecologist and obstetrician. Dr. Turner is very frank in his discussions with patients and will give clear advice as to the best treatment pathway (Clomid vs IVF). He will not beat around the bush and he will do everything required to maximise your success.

Re Costs: HFC costs for fertiltiy treatment compare well. They are NOT the most expensive clinic in Perth and overall they have good success rates. There are SO many factors that affect treatment success. There is no evidence to suggest paying more for treatment will give you better outcomes.

RE: good gynaecologists - No one gynaecologist suits all patients and often it is also about a personal fit.  Fertility treatment can take time to be successful - so it is imporant that you feel comfortable with your treating consultant. If you are struggling to connect with your gynacecologist you can try speaking to your referring GP about getting a second opionion.  Alternatively you can speak with your clinic nurse coordinator or counsellor to explore what the issues are.

Good luck with your treatment.
